Netflix Acquires Streaming Rights To First Season Of ‘Scavengers Reign’

In a surprising turn of events, Netflix has acquired streaming rights to the first season of the Max sci-fi thriller Scavengers Reign.

The series will begin streaming on Netflix May 31, as first reported by Variety. The deal is non-exclusive, so the series will continue to remain available on Max.

Max has not renewed the series for a second season, but Netflix could potentially commission a second season. The decision will be made after Netflix assesses viewership figures for the first season that it has licensed.

Scavengers Reign was co-created and executive-produced by Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner and is adapted from their 2016 short Scavengers. The duo served as executive producers on the series alongside Green Street Pictures colleagues and co-executive producers Sean Buckelew and James Merrill. Chris Prynoski executive produced for Titmouse, which was the animation provider.

The series follows the surviving crew members of a damaged deep space freighter stranded on a beautiful yet unforgiving planet. As the small group uncovers the true nature of this planet, they must do everything in their power to survive long enough to escape or be rescued. Cartoon Brew included the 12-episode first season on our list of “10 Standout Animated Series That Defined 2023.”
